WEST LIBERTY, Iowa — Mary O. Carter, 85, died Friday Oct. 19, 2012, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.

A memorial fund has been established.

Mary was born Feb. 5, 1927, in West Liberty, the daughter of Dewey and Marcia (Curtis) Patterson. She was a graduate of West Liberty High School in the Class of 1944 and attended Iowa City Mercy Nursing School.

On June 22, 1962 she was united in marriage to A. J. "Bud" Carter.

She had been employed with Owen's Brush Co., West Liberty School System in the lunch room and the Simpson Memorial Home.

She enjoyed the outdoors, spending time at their cabin on the Cedar river and fishing. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing reading and the time spent with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Bud Carter of West Liberty; four children, Sherry Grable (Wayne Hartwig) of Solon, Terry (Ramonne) Hudson of Davie, Fla., Robert (Mary) Hudson of Fairfax and James Hudson of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Heather (Ray) Carrizales, Marcy (Kurt) Weber, Eric Hudson and Sonia Hudson; six great grandchildren, Maya, Cole, Ava and Cade Carrizales and Whitney and Kalli Weber; sister Norma Bryan Pensa-cola, Fla.; brothers, Robert (Janet) Patterson of West Des Moines and Richard (Betsy) Patterson of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
