A native of Spartanburg County; son of the late Horrato S Austin (1878–1944) and Adelia Gary Austin (1878–1959); widower of Genell Cothran Austin (1903–1977) and Evelyn E. Padgett Austin (1909–1985).
A member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, attended Tucapau Baptist Church, a Shriner, and had been employed at Draper Corporation for more than 50 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeri Austin Sellars; sons, Elbert Horatio Austin (1921–1994) and Edward L. Austin; brothers, William Braddie Austin (1909–2007), James Richard Austin (1918–1999), and Edward Austin; sister, Ethel Louise Austin Barnett Owens (1905-2004); thirteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.
Also predeceased by a brother, H Dewitt Austin (1907–1983).
Visitation was held from 2:00 - 2:45 pm, Monday, May 30, 1994, at Floyd's Greenlaw Chapel.
Graveside services followed at 3:00 pm in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by Dr. William Pate.
