Obituary in The State, Columbia, SC, 17 Oct 2006: West Columbia - Services for Ernest "Earl" Areheart, Sr., 71, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Paul Aebischer, Rev. Virginia Aebischer and Mrs. Amy Luckey. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Officiating as pallbearers will be Billy Clark, Chuck Cepak, Sidney Ward, Reggie Ward, Nelson Clark, Scotty Moore and Rudy Areheart. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. this Tuesday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. Mr. Areheart, widower of Brilla Ann Hobbs Areheart, died Sunday, October 15, 2006. Born in West Columbia, he was a son of the late Ernest Lee and Estelle L. Crout Areheart. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. Mr. Areheart had retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections as deputy warden. He was a retired U.S Air Force veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. Mr. Areheart was a member of the "Chain Gang" at Airport High School Football. Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret E. and Russell Constance of Lexington, Ginette A. and Billy Boone of West Columbia and Charlotte H. and Dwight Gable of Irmo; son and daughter-in-law, Ernest Earl Jr., and Rhonda Areheart of Lexington; sister, Sarah Turner of West Columbia; brother, William Areheart of Lexington; five grandchildren, Gabrielle Boone, Billy Joe Boone, Jr., Erica Nicole Areheart, Ernest Earl Areheart, III and Madison Chandler Gable; one great-grandchild, Kase. The family would like to give special thanks to Reverends Paul and Ginny Aebischer and Mrs. Amy Luckey for all the prayers and visits during our father's illness. Mr. Areheart touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all.
