JOHN A. BARRETT DIED EARLY THIS MORNING

LIFELONG RESIDENT OF CITY PASSED AWAY AT INDIANAPOLIS HOSPITAL.

Gangrene resulting from the amputation of a foot, was the cause of the death of John A. Barrett, lifelong and highly esteemed resident of this city who died at 6:20 o'clock this morning at the Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis.

Mr. Barrett had been at the hospital for the last several weeks and it was believed that he was improving rapidly.

His family had prepared to remove him to this city Saturday, but his condition became suddenly worse, and continued so until the hour of his death.

Funeral services will be held at the home of his sister, Mrs. Martha Stewart, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. E.H. Boldrey officiating.

Burial will be made in Forest Hill Cemetery in charge of Ralph J. Edwards Funeral Director.

Mr. Barrett was born at Hope, Ind., May 25, 1867, and at the time of death was fifty-five years old.

When three years old, he moved with his family to this city, where he had lived the remainder of his life.

In the year 1888, he was united in marriage with Miss Minnie Stevens who preceded him in death. He was later married to Mrs. Jennie Clore, who survives.

He was a member of the First M.E. Church, the Masons, K of P. and the Modern Woodmen organizations of this city, and had a multitude of friends here who mourn his death.

For many years he had been active in social and public life of this community, and was held in high esteem by his many friends.

He leaves three sons, Elmer and George Barrett of Indianapolis and Fred Barrett of Jeffersonville; one daughter, Mrs. Irene Jester, of Waukegan, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. Martha Stewart of this city.
