Donald was born in Indian Territory, Miami, Okla. to Samuel and Louisa Leonard. He was proud to be a member of the Miami Indian Tribe. He spent his early years and received his education in Oklahoma.

On Sept. 3, 1932, he married Miss Mildred Metheny at Picher, Okla. Following their marriage they made their home in Oklahoma until moving to Sunnyside in 1947. He was employed at the Hanford Project and later was employed by the Sunnyside School District for many years.

He was an avid sports fan and took an active part in Sunnyside Youth Baseball, having served as the coach for the first Sunnyside Babe Ruth baseball team. He continued an active part in Sunnyside Youth Baseball, having coached his grandsons and great-grandsons.

He was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene.

He will be remembered by his family as "the greatest" husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and to many young men of the Sunnyside community as "Grandpa Leonard".

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Milred Leonard, four daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Donna) Stevens, Mrs. John (Darlene) Johnston, Mrs. Douglas (JoAnn) Vawter, and Mrs. Leonard (Linda) Johnson. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter who died in 1935 and by six brothers and five sisters.
