Claude Clay Alderson, 77, Henderson County, died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at St. Anthony's Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center.

He was a member of First Baptist Church. Claude was a retired locks/dam equipment mechanic with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Newburgh Locks and Dam. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Chester and Lora Denton Alderson; and 11 siblings.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Eleanor Bristow Alderson; three daughters, Sherri Alderson and Stacey Dixon, both of Henderson County, and Kelley Sandefur of Hopkinsville; one son, David Alderson and his companion, Denise Walker of Henderson County; five grandchildren, Isaac Dixon, Sam Dixon, Jessie Sandefur, Karis Sandefur, and Jordan Walker; one sister-in-law, Grace Alderson of Henderson; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Rev. Todd Linn, Ph.D., and the Rev. Nick Sandefur will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, with full military rites performed by American Legion Worsham Post No. 40.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony's Hospice.

Pallbearers will be children and sons-in-law, Jeff Dixon, Stacey Dixon, David Alderson, Sherri Alderson, Nick Sandefur and Kelley Sandefur.
