Sarah Marie Alderfer Weaver, 78, passed away, Saturday, October 6, 2012 at her home in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She had been ill for six months.

Mrs. Weaver was born April 16, 1934 in Denbigh, Virginia and was a daughter of the late Frank F. and Hilda (Moyer) Alderfer.

Sarah attended Warwick High School in Warwick County (now Newport News), VA for her early high school years, graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School and attended Eastern Mennonite College, Harrisonburg, VA.

Early employment was at Colony Farmers Market in Newport News, VA and Warwick Cabinet Shop (also in Newport News) as secretary.

She grew up in the Warwick River Mennonite Church where she became a member and taught Sunday School and Bible School. Sarah was a member of several gospel teams that ministered in Kentucky, Richmond, and Newport News.

On August 31, 1954, she married Samuel O. Weaver. She assisted her husband who was chaplain of the Warwick River Literary Society.

After moving to Harrisonburg in 1963 for her husband to attend Eastern Mennonite College, she worked as housekeeper for Ella May Miller and became a faithful member at Lindale Mennonite Church where she had been WMSC secretary, Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher. She was also an associate member at Grace Mennonite Fellowship. For 25 years, Sarah worked at Eastern Mennonite College/University as receptionist in the information office.

She was deeply committed to living her faith at home, in her community and at church. Lynn Brunk, former Warwick Sunday School student who lives in Harrisonburg, called Sarah faithfully every morning until her death.

Throughout her married life, Sarah teamed with her husband as the grace side of their ministry with Eastern Mennonite High School, Virginia Mennonite Conference, Eastern Mennonite University and Northern District Mennonite Churches. Her hobbies were playing the piano, visiting and helping friends, playing word games, feeding birds and squirrels on her back deck at home, and preparing home-cooked meals for her family and friends. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Sarah is survived by her beloved husband, Samuel O. Weaver; two daughters, Janet Fern Weaver of Harrisonburg, VA and Doris Ann Weaver Leaman and husband Stephen of Broadway, VA; one son, Michael Dale Weaver and wife Rachel of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren, Michelle Leaman Richards and husband Ryland of Lisbon, Maine, Jonathan Leaman of Broadway, Julie Weaver, Jenna Weaver, and Jamison Weaver of Harrisonburg. She is also survived by three sisters, Myrna Alderfer of Newport News, VA, Dorcas Schaefer and husband Wallace of Cumberland, VA, and Kathryn Baer and husband Nelson of Newport News, VA; one brother, Harold Alderfer and wife Elaine of Louisa County, VA; one sister-in-law, Lois Ziegler Alderfer Fisher of Harrisonburg.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Alderfer.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Lindale Mennonite Church in Linville, VA.

Officiating ministers will be Rev. Duane Yoder and Rev.Peg Engle.

Burial will be held privately in Lindale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Lindale Mennonite Church.
