Mr. Coppedge was born January 16, 1915 in Valdosta, Georgia and was the only son of the late John Beauchamp Coppedge Sr. and Sophie Lambdin Coppedge. Mr. Coppedge attended the Spring Street School, Riverside Military Academy, and graduated from North Fulton High School and attended Upsalla College and the Pratt Institute. In the mid 1930's he moved to New Jersey and established with his father Colonial House Candies. In 1958 John Coppedge returned to Atlanta to operate his family's candy manufacturing company, Sophie Mae Candy Corporation.

Mr. Coppedge was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Smith Coppedge, and is survived by his son, John Beauchamp Coppedge III and his wife, Penny, his daughter, Nancy Coppedge Lynn and her husband, Jerry, his grandchildren, Worth Lynn, Barbara Dulin, Sophie Smulders, and Catherine Wallace, nine great grandchildren, his sister, Anne Coppedge Carr and her husband, Julian, his former wife, Ann Creekmore Jones, and many devoted nephews and cousins.
