William Keefer, of Co. C, enrolled Aug. 23, 1861 in Ft. Wayne by Capt. Tannehill as a 4th Corporal; mustered in Sep. 28, 1861 in Ft. Wayne by Maj. Carpenter at age 29. He was 5Œ 6.75 tall, light complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair. Born Mar. 1, 1832 in Stark Co., OH, employed as a cooper, married to Normanda (Amanda) Bowser, resided in Ft. Wayne in Allen Co., IN. Discharged for erysipelas-spinal tremors, unable to walk, Apr. 28, 1863 in Murfreesboro, TN. with rank of Private. Notes: Brother to John Keefer and uncle to William Engle and John Engle. Wounded at Ft. Donelson. Received accidental gunshot wound in left hand losing finger. Reduced to ranks about April 1862. He filed Invalid Pension Application to receive Pension Certificate #342497 May 30, 1863. Resident of OK about 1880; resided at Ft. Wayne, IN in 1891-92. Died May 13, 1906 in Clay Center, Clay Co., KS; buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Addition 1/Block 16, Clay Center, KS.
