Robert H Thompson, 88, of Wright City, went home to be with the Lord on October 17, 2012 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born May 26, 1924 in Spencerville, Oklahoma, the son of Hampton H. Thompson and Narcissa James Thompson, and the great-grandson of Henry W. Thompson and Illie Pisahumbe and Simon Thompson and Lucy Thompson. He was also related to Captain Nanamommitabi and his clan is Loksi, Ahi Apet Okla, Okla Hannli and Oklah Falaya from the Northern District in Mississippi and Alabama.
He was married to Susie Mae Polk-Thompson who passed to the spirit world in 1997. He was a husband, father, grandfather and hard worker and lived most of his adult life in Wright City. He was an employee of Dierks Lumber and retired from Weyerhaeuser Lumber Company. He belonged to Hampton Chapel Methodist Church and his parents are buried there. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boxing and stickball games. Robert served in the Armed Services, Army Air Corps of the United States from May 14, 1943 to January 29, 1946. He served with Army Air Forces as ground Crewman in United States, European and Asiatic Pacific Theater. He served in North Africa, Italy, Philippines and India. He was responsible for placing bombs on bomb bays of aircrafts which had tiger teeth nosetips and lucky lady painted on the side of the plane. He was a World War II Veteran. Surviving are his three sons, Robert H. Thompson, Jr of Wright City; Anthony and Judy Thompson of Arlington, Texas; Dean and Sue Thompson of Broken Bow; four daughters, Corliss Dewight and David Jacobs fo Broken Bow; Laverne Buckley and Jon Tiger of Tulsa; Debra Wolfmule of Tulsa; Phyliss Williston of Tulsa. His daughter Diane Thompson passed on to spirit world in 2010 and Harold W. Taylor, stepson, passed on the the spirit world. He had fourteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren at the time of his passing. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His children said "he believed in the creator (God) and in Jesus Christ and was ready to go see our mom and our mafu and granny. He was a full blood Choctaw Tribal Member." Mr. Thompson will lie in state at Bunch-Singleton Funeral home on friday and saturday, October 19 and 20 from 9am to 5pm.
A wake will be held at Mr. Thompsons home in Wright City on Sunday, October 21, 2012 beginning at 2pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 22, 2012 at 11am the Hampton Chapel Methodist Church.
Interment will follow at Slater Memorial Cemetery in Wright City.
