Monroe was the son of Emanuel Byerly and Susan Delp. He married Laura Quint on Oct. 14, 1886 in Carroll, Iowa. They were the parents of John, Pearl, and Murial.

Feb 10. 1933 - Carroll Daily Herald - Funeral rites for E.M. Byerly will be held tomorrow afternoon at the Romayne Huffman Funeral home, where the body is at present resting and may be viewed by relatives and friends. The Rev. Claude R. Cook, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church, will conduct the services. Mrs. Romayne E. Huffman will sing "Crossing the Bar" and will be accompanied by Mrs. John Seeden. Burial will be in the family lot in the city cemetery.

Elois Monroe Byerly was born in Ogle county, Illinois, Aug. 6, 1863. With his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Byerly, of Glidden, he came to Carroll county in 1881 and located on the prairie northeast of Dedham.

He was united in marriage in 1886 to Miss Laura Quint, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs S.C. Quint. To this union three children were born: John R Byerly of Carroll; Mrs R.H. Farnsworth (Pearl) of Wabash, Indiana; and Mrs B.H. Riedesel of (Murial) of Sioux City.

In addition to the foregoing he is survived by his widow, and six grandchildren: Donald, Laura, and Paul Riedesel of Sioux City, Glenn and Robert Farnsworth of Wabash, Ind and Ward Byerly of Carroll. He also leaves one brother, Samuel Byerly of Glidden and an uncle John H Byerly of Ralston, who is 94 years old, and relatives in the eastern part of the county.

Mr. Byerly moved with his family to Carroll in 1910 and became associated with Albert McNabb in the automobile business. He continued in his employ until failing health, due mostly to an accident, compelled him to retire and take up less strenuous work. He was a member of the Church of God, which disbanded several years ago.

Mr. Byerly had been in poor health for some months. He was taken ill a week ago Monday with inflammatory rheumatism and later complications developed which he had no vitality to withstand. He was taken to St. Anthony hospital for treatment Tuesday afternoon and died there at 2:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
