GALLATIN – Services for D. William Edward McKissack, 70, of 160 Blythe st., Gallatin's first and only Negro dentist, will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Key Methodist church.
The Rev. R. A. Stewart will officiate and burial will be in Gallatin cemetery. The boy is at Johnson-Coleman & Kelsey funeral home.
Dr. McKissack died at Doctors' hospital at 4 a.m. Sunday shortly after suffering a heart attack at his home. He had suffered from muscular dystrophy for the past 10 years but continued his dental practice until his death.
A native of Nashville, he was the son of the late Rev. William E. McKissack and Mrs. Rebecca McKissack. He attended old Pearl high school and Walden university in Nashville and was graduated from Meharry medical college in 1915 with a degree in dentistry.
Dr. McKissack started his practice in Gallatin in 1916 and had lived here since that time. In 1920 he married Callie Bell of Gallatin who survives.
Dr. McKissack was a member of Key Methodist church and served at one time as Sunday school superintendent and president of the Epworth League of the church.
His son, Dr. W. E. McKissack Jr., of Jackson, Tenn., is editor of Dental Search-Light, board member of the National Dental association, and has served two terms as president of the Pan-Tennessee Dental association.
Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. A. B. Jordan, Springfield, Tenn., and a brother, Ira McKissack, Chicago.
