Margaret Schenk was born in Rock Island, Illinois on April 26, 1862. Her parents were Samuel S. Schenk (b. 8/27/1819, d. 8/27/1907) and Mary Bucher Schenk (Samuel's second wife) (b. 3/2/1819, d. 1907), both of whom were born in Switzerland and emigrated to the US separately in 1851. Samuel had come to the US with his first wife and two of his four sons, only to lose his wife and the two sons to a cholera plague in Toledo, Ohio.

Margaret had one brother and one sister:
John (b. 8/17/1858, d. 1/16/1934)
Caroline (b. 2/16/1864, d. 12/19/1946)

Margaret met William P. Baker (b. 6/23/1858, Freeport IL) and they married on May 10, 1882 at St. John's ME Church parsonage in Davenport IA.

Margaret and William had seven children:

Ida Mae b. 8/17/1882, d. 12/15/1962) [Lyon]
Carrie Etta (b. 4/13/1885, d. 4/7/1961) [Schuck]
Louis E. (b. 8/13/1887, d. 2/27/1966)
Howard B. (b. 1/3/1887, d. 3/8/1971)
George R. (b. 3/8/1892, d. 10/22/1962)
Estella (b. 11/13/1894, d. 8/4/1982) [Crandall]
Harold A. (b. 6/28/1897, d. 10/15/1977)

Her husband died in 1933, and Margaret died on July 2, 1949.

Her daughter Ida Mae was my grandmother.

My first name was given to me in honor of my great grandmother on my father's side, Eliese Christensen Nielsen, and my middle name is Margaret, after my great grandmother, Margaret Schenk Baker on my mother's side.
