Major League Baseball Player. Born Alva Russell Derry, he was an outfielder for four seasons (1944 to 1946, 1949) with the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals. His best year was in 1945 when he had a season high 57 hits with 13 homeruns. In addition to his major league career, Derry was a stand-out player in the minor leagues with the Rochester Red Wings. In 187 career games, Derry had 124 hits with a lifetime .224 batting average.
