Sam was the brother of one of my 2x-great-grandma's, Mary Catherine Barnes Jacobs, and my dad remembers the old fellow vividly. He never wed and spent his later years living with my great-grandma, Euphemia Jacobs Daniell, and according to Dad, those two were something else - a primal force (and I agree, I remember Phemie!), and the quintessential grumpy old coot! Dad remembers Sam with real fondness, but confesses that he and the rest of the kids ragged him something shameless.
