Betty Jean Mathews, 70, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Lynn Garrett of First Baptist Church in Amarillo officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.

Mrs. Mathews was born March 5, 1934, in Gainesville to Owen and Alice Almon. She married Bob Mathews on April 29, 1951. Mrs. Mathews had a master of education degree and was a teacher at Bonham Junior High, Amarillo High School and Caprock High School. She also worked for Region 16 before retiring in 1997. Mrs. Mathews was a member of Eastern Star since 1967 and was a former worthy matron of Eastern Star Borger Chapter No. 811. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband; a brother, Marcus Newton Almon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice.
