Sylva - Joseph Joe Clyde Fisher, 88, of Fisher Creek Road, Sylva, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 3, 2007, at Morningstar Assisted Living.

Mr. Fisher was the son of the late Clyde Wilburn and Gursie Parris Fisher, of Sylva, and husband of the late Lucy Parker Fisher, of Sylva. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Fisher Barnes.

A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a member of Scotts Creek Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, church treasurer and new church building committee member. Mr. Fisher was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and Civil Service. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Jackson County rural mail delivery system. He was a former active member of the Sylva Lions Club. Mr. Fisher was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Moody Funeral Home and Crematorium, 714 W. Main St., Sylva, with the Rev. Mike Farmer officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Dills Cemetery, Fisher Creek Road, Sylva. Pallbearers will be Bryan Cooke, Danny Fisher, Jimmy Fisher, Buddy Fisher, Carroll Fisher and Buddy Hooper
