Christian/Kristian Gulbrandsen and his wife Ragnild/Margrethe Markusdatter immigrated to the USA in 1862 from Konysvengei Solar, Norway. Upon arrival their children were given Christian's last name of Gulbrandsen instead of keeping their Norwegian surnames of Christensen and Christensdatter. Then later they changed their last names to Bremmon and Breimon. This name came from the name of the farm in Norway where the family had lived.
Elise Gulbrandsen Bremmon was born the 24th of October, 1862 near Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA. She was born just six weeks after her parents arrived in America from Norway on a sailing ship. There is much controversy on the spelling of Elise's name. On Leon's birth certificate it is Elisa Bremmon. On her tombstone it is Eliza Gulbranson Ebert. The census records show it as Elise. Some have written the last name as Gulbrensen. Her last name was later changed to Bremmon. When she was three she moved with her family to Kandiyohi County, near Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, USA where she grew up and went to school. Elise was a kind woman who was well-liked in town. She worked as a mid-wife and often cared for people who were ill.
Being in poor health for some time Elise suffered a heart attack and died the 30th of June, 1941 in Britton, Marshall County, South Dakota, USA. She is buried in Britton, Marshall County, South Dakota, USA.
