ADAMS, CATHERINE Sept. 13, 1918 to August 15, 2003 Catherine Mary Elizabeth (Kay) Adams, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, in Del Mar, Calif., two months after suffering a severe stroke.

She is survived by her three sons, Steve, Jim and Jeff; her daughters-in-law Gracie and Lyn; her sister Norma, in Monona, Iowa; nine grandchildren Ursula, Grayson, Darrin and Annie; Elizabeth, Carrie, and Kathryn; and Haydn and Kayln; and two great-grandchildren Skylar and Zander.

She was predeceased by her husband of fifty seven years, Dr. Wlliam T. (Bill) Adams and daughter-in-law, Karen Adams.

Born and raised in Monona, Iowa, Kay attended Cornell College before moving to New York City in 1938 to live with her older sister, Parma. There she met and in 1941 married her husband, Bill, a medical student at Columbia University. In 1942 they settled in San Diego where he established and ran a large general practice in Kensington for forty-four years. The family lived in La Mesa for twenty-five years with her children attending Grossmont High School.

Besides being a full-time mother, which was her greatest achievement, Kay also enjoyed playing golf and bridge, and doing needlework. She was a founding member of the Happy Hackers women ' s golf team at La Jolla Country Club where she was a long time member. She continued playing bridge with her regular women ' s bridge club up until last year.

Kay Adams will always be remembered by those that knew and loved her for the depth of her generosity, her charming smile, her unfailing optimism in the face of adversity, and her overall zest for life. Her unconditional love for her family and friends was boundless. She will be sorely missed.

Immediate funeral services will be private, but a memorial service will be held in the near future. For details friends can contact her son, Jeff, at 760-918-1700. Memorial donations can be made in her honor to "Y-Me San Diego", a breast cancer organization, 2543 E. Grand Ave. #205, Escondido, Ca 92025.
