Bales, Mary Rasar-age 88 of Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord on October 16, 2012.

Mary was born on March 24, 1924. She married Grover S. Hill and together they had a son Steve Hill, Jr. Grover was killed in action in 1945 during WWII. In 1948, Mary remarried to Floyd Alvin Bales and together they had 2 children, Rosemary and Alvin. Mary lived in the Riverdale community for 60 years. She was a member of Riverdale Baptist Church and more recently Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She worked for 10 years as Chief Clerk of the Knox County Election Commission and for over 30 years in the Knox County Property Assessor's Office. Mary was active in the Republican party and served for a number of years as the chair of the Riverdale Republican Committee. Mary's favorite hobbies were playing cards and quilting. She has quilted over 75 blankets and was most proud that she quilted each of her children and grandchildren a blanket of their own.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Rosa Mae Martin and Oscar Lee Rasar; husband Floyd Alvin Bales, Sr., son Alvin Bales, Jr.; and son-in-law Steve Parker.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Terry Hill of Knoxville, TN.; daughter, Rosemary Parker of Maryville, TN; grandchildren, Special granddaughter Stephanie Pierce and husband Alan of Maryville, TN.; Jennifer Pettus and husband Bryan of Nashville, TN; Cindy Buttry and husband Steven of Knoxville, TN; Ellie White and husband Clint of Roanoke, VA.; Jackie Cody and husband Todd of Knoxville, TN.; Kim Dahm and husband Kai of Bitburger, Germany; Emily Galford and husband Brandon of Antioch, TN.; great-grandchildren, Taylor Pierce, Nick Pierce, C.J. Pierce and wife Rita, and Christian Pierce all of Maryville, TN.; James Pettus of Nashville, TN.; Zachary Buttry of Knoxville, TN.; Lyza and Jayce White of Roanoke, VA.; Savannah and Bryson Cody of Knoxville, TN; Lukas Dahm of Bitburger, Germany; Sophia, Eliana and Jacob Galford of Antioch, TN.; and sister-in-law, Joyce Rasar.

Family and friends will gather from 5:30p.m. - 6:45p.m., Wednesday in Stevens Chapel and will be followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Greg Long will be officiating.

Graveside service and interment will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Taylor Pierce, Nick Pierce, C.J. Pierce, Christian Pierce, Bryan Pettus, Steven Buttry, Clint White, Todd Cody and Brandon Galford.
