Hugh Menenol Ross,
Co. A 27th Tennessee Volunteers, CSA
Born: March 6, 1827
Died: May 16 , 1902

Hugh had his wife, Betsy, buried at the old Earp Cemetery, which was very ill kept but he wanted her with their son, James. However, when his death was imminent, Hugh expressed the wish to be buried at Enon and not at the old cemetery. His daughter, Margaret, was very unhappy with this decision, stating that he thought the cemetery was good enough for her mother so it should be good enough for him. Majority ruled however and Hugh was buried at Enon.

They had 9 children, 3 of whom believed to have died before the couple came to Texas. Another son, James, died after they moved to Texas and he is buried in the Earp Cemetery. Three daughters, Margaret, Martha, and Lula are linked below. Son, Silas, is also linked below. The other daughter, Nancy 'Nannie', married a Holly, moved & is believed to be buried somewhere in Oklahoma.

Two of Hugh's granddaughters, Ruthie Mary Pool & Bessie Rachel (Pool) Smith, did the paperwork & obtained the CSA monument for Hugh.
