Obituary from the Shreveport Times newspaper, Nov. 21, 1973, Wednesday, p. 12-A:

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at the Marshall Street Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home for Claude N. Barnard, 73, of 4615 Steere Drive. He died Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Veterans Administration Hospital after a long illness.

He was a retired superintendent for Mid-States Oil Corp. (Tenneco).

A native of Hartford, Ky., Mr. Barnard had lived in Shreveport 15 years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the American Legion and a veteran of World War I.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Jewell Barnard; one son, Leon Barnard of Hattiesburg, Miss.; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Wallace of Hartford, and Mrs. Lucille Frey of Hamden, Ohio, and three grandsons.

The Rev. Lowell Todd, chaplain of the VA Hospital, will officiate at the services.

Burial will be in Centuries Park.

Pallbearers will be T. J. Goodloe, M. O. Dennis, "Red" Simpson, Dane Murphree, Art Brink and John Franks.
