"Garold Lee Haskin, age 81 died Friday, Dec 12, 2003 at Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center with his loving wife and daughter at his side. Death was because of natural causes.

Garold was born in Boise Feb. 9, 1922, to Lee and Ethelwyn Fortner Haskin. He was their only child. He grew up and attended school in Boise and also for a short time in Grass Valley, Ore., where he graduated from high school.

While in Grass Valley, Garold met and married Ellen Eakin May 2, 1943.

The couple made their home in the Boise area, where he hauled hay and farmed. They moved to Grangeville in 1951 and lived on a farm northeast of town. He and Ellen moved to Grangeville in 1999 but his heart remained in the country.

In addition to farming, he was interested in real estate ventures and owned and managed numerous residential and commercial properties.

Garold was a member of the Pierce Park Grange, Elks Lodge, Odd Fellows and the Rebekah Lodge.

He was fond of western music, had a special love for his pets and an occasional dance. He enjoyed visiting with friends and listening to the Old Time Fiddlers.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen, at their home; a daughter Ruby and husband Frank Sargent of Grangeville; two sons and their wives, Fred and Debbie Haskin of Elk Grove, Calif; and Gary and Robin Haskin of Lewiston; grandchildren Bryan and Greg Nida, Nicholas, Nathan and Monica Haskin, Stephanie Hull, Kira and Celeste Haskin; and three great grandchildren.

Viewing hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.

A funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Blackmer Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Gott of the Grangeville Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Paririe View Cemetery in Grangeville.
