Rex was survived by daughter Paula (husband Johnny Salazar) of Santa Fe; grandchildren: David Lucero Jr. (companion Megan Gonzáles) of Santa Cruz, Jennifer Salazar, Nicholas Salazar, Daniel Lucero, and Amanda Lucero, all of Santa Fe, and Angel Chacón of Española; great-granddaughter Christina Lucero of Santa Cruz; siblings: Agatha Bowlar, Fred Lucero (wife Evelyn), and Joseph Lucero of Santa Cruz; close and special friend Sennie Quintana of Cuarteles; mother of his children Jenette Lucero of Santa Fe; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A Rosary was on 24 Oct 2004 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial was on 15 Oct 2004 at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. Burial of his cremains followed in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with his son David Lucero. Honorary pallbearers: Toby López, Apolinar "Polly" Venegas, Genaro Luján, Ben Maestas, Refugio Hernández, and Joe Márquez.
