Harry was one of the leading merchants of Lewiston and Auburn, ME since coming to these cities in 1910. At the age of 17 years old he went to work in a dry goods store in Wells River, VT. He later located in Littleton, NH, Chester and Rutland, VT successively and in 1910 he and his brother came to Lewiston, ME. They bought the dry goods business of A W Fowles on Lisbon St in Lewiston, ME which they carried on under the firm name of Abbott Brothers.

In 1914 they bought the building now occupied by the J C Penney Co remodeled it and enlarged the business. They retired in 1925.

Two years later Harry bought the business of F L Bartlet & Son on Court St in Auburn, ME. In 1929 he sold it to L C Nutter. For the past two years he was employed by Timberlake and Estes a stock and investment house.

He was very interested in civic affairs, and was active in the Merchants Bureau.

He leaves behind his wife Josephine Weare; four sons Maurice J of Red Bank, NJ; Charles of Portland, ME; Elmer W of Auburn, ME; Harold W of Waterville, ME; a brother Willis A Abbott of Auburn, ME who has been spending the winter in Lynchburg, VA.
