(John 14:1-2) Phyllis Marie Laughlin, 85, Prairie Village, KS, passed away in her home Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. Visitation will be held at Old Mission United Methodist Church at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, with the funeral service following. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at the Americus Cemetery. Americus, KS. In lieu of flowers, her family requests contributions to either Old Mission United Methodist Church, 5519 State Park Rd., Fairway, KS 66205 or Kansas Honor Flight, PO Box 2371, Hutchinson, KS 67504. Phyllis was born in Emporia, KS, to Fremont Harris and Hattie Lavina Reyer Harris. She spent her growing up years on a farm near Saffordville, KS, and graduated from Toledo Township High School in Saffordville. On Feb. 1, 1948, she married Robert Eugene 'Gene' Laughlin in Emporia, KS. They celebrated almost 60 years of love & devotion as husband & wife. Her favorite role was that of wife & mother. Her volunteer services to church and community were innumerable, with her most recent service to Crosslines, where she volunteered & helped serve at the food kitchen. She has been a member at Old Mission United Methodist Church since 1972. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Laughlin, two infant children, Steven Eugene and Jeanne Marie & four sisters, Juanita Evans, Estalene 'Faye' Bennett, Sarah Harris, & Marjorie Harris. She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Laughlin.
