Annie Jones Wright Shearin, 86, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Brunswick County, Va., to the late Sidney Jones and Berneice Mabruary Jones. She was also preceded in death by one son, Earl Stanley Jackson.
Most of her adult life was spent in North Carolina, where she operated Wright’s Grocery and Gas Station in Littleton for 34 years until she retired at the age of 75.
“Mrs. Wright,” as she was known, is well remembered for her hand-dipped ice cream cones, hoop cheese, rolls of stick bologna and penny cookies. She loved work and her customers very much.
Mrs. Annie enjoyed reading, cooking and her family. She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church near Lake Gaston.
Mrs. Shearin is survived by two daughters, Joyce M. Adcox and her husband, Edward, of Townsville, and Debra J. Hicks and her husband, Tenwood L. “Buck” Hicks, of Roanoke Rapids; two sons, Richard C. Jackson and his wife, Bonnie, of Broadnax, Va., and David L. Jackson and his wife, Laurie, of Littleton; one brother, Mac “Frenchy” Jones, of Warick, Va.; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 24, at Blaylock Funeral Home in Littleton, which is handling the arrangements.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25, at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Don Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Littleton.
