Michael T. Meschke USN, 33, died in the service of his country, November 14, 1999.
He was one of the two Navy airmen killed during a carrier take-off accident while on board the USS John F. Kennedy.
Lt. Meschke was a born July 9, 1966 in Saginaw Michigan. He graduated from AuGres High School, and enlisted in the Navy October 7, 1986 and after completing training was assigned to submarine service. He served aboard USS Swordfish from Nov. 1988 until Oct. 1992; and aboard USS Nevada from Oct. 1992 until Oct. 1993. He next served with Naval Submarine Supply Facility until Nov. 1995 at which time he transferred to the pre- commissioning unit in Louisiana. He completed his degree in Nuclear Technology from the University of the State of New York. He received his commission at NAS Pensacola, June, 1996 and won his "wings of gold" in Oct. 1997 His awards include Navy/Marine Corps Medal, (two awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal, (Bronze Star), Expert Pistol Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commodation, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Navy Marksman Ribbon, and Deterant Patrol 22, 29, 18 ribbons.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Meschke; father, Barry Meschke; mother, Joan Worsham; paternal grandmother, Betty Meschke; great grandfather, Leo Slodowski; brother, Dan Meschke; sister, Ashley Meschke.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, November 22, 1999 at The Naval Aviation Chapel, NAS Pensacola, with Rev. Edward Harrison of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
