MATEJ KABOUREK

Matej Kabourek was born in Zvykoi, Bohemia, on Feb. 23, 1843. Growing to manhood he engaged in carpenter work and as a laborer. On February 6, 1866, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Fuxa. Nine years later, in 1875, they immigrated to America, settling in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, where they resided for three years. They then came to Butler County, Nebraska, and made their home on a farm five miles northeast of Brainard, where they resided until 1905. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kabourek, three of which died in Europe while yet small children, and one son, Wenceslaus, died at his home in Dwight about four years ago. One son, Frank, and one daughter, Mrs. Frank Bratrsovsky, both of this community, survive their parents. Mrs. Kabourek preceded her husband to "the land beyond" in 1913. Besides his son and daughter, Mr. Kabourek is survived by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. W. F. Kabourek, and by eighteen grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Thursday morning, Dec. 4, at Holy Trinity Catholic church in Brainard. Deceased had been a long time member of the Z. C. K. J. Society (Western Union of Catholic Men) which recently united with the Katolicky Delnik (Catholic Workmen.) Burial was in the Brainard Catholic cemetery, by the side of his wife.

Although nearly eighty-eight years of age, Mr. Kabourek had enjoyed good health, except for the minor ailments common in old age, until about five weeks prior to his death, which occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
