Rev. Luther M. Hollister

Slate Hill - The Rev. Luther Merriman Hollister, 77, of Mount Orange Road, formerly of Newburgh, died friday June 12, 1981, in Horton Hospital, Middletown, after a long illness.

Born in North Kingsville, Ohio, June 2, 1904, he was the son of Theodore Swan Hollister and Eleanor Merriman Fisk. He was married to the former Helen Fisk.

A Presbyterian minister, he was named pastor emeritus of the Union Presbyterian Church, Balmville, in January 1980.
He was a graduate of Wooster, Ohio, College, with his B.S.: Princeton Theological Seminary with his bachelors of theology: and Princeton University with his masters of philosophy. He was ordanied at the Stony Point Presbyterian Church on May 6, 1930, and served as it's pastor for 36 years. He then served at Webb Horton Presbyterian Church for one year, then at the First Presbyterian Church of Newburgh for eleven years. Following it's merger with the Union Presbyterian Church, he served as assistant pastor for two years.

He served on all committees of the Presbyterian of Hudson and was stated clerk from 1955 to 1963. He was past president of the Stony Point Chapter, American Red Cross, and was the last living member of the Stony Point Ambulance Corps board of directors. He was a memberof the Stony Point PTA, chaplain and past master of the Wawayanda Grange: chaplain of the Orange and ROckland Pomona GrangeL and president of the Land of the Lenape Historical Society.
Survivors include his widow; Two daughters, Corlin H. Carpenter and Theda H. Wolfe, both of Slate Hill; a sister, Gretchen H. Crowther of North Kingsville, Ohio and six grandchildren.

Memorial services will be June 21 at 3 p.m. at the Union Presbyterian Church, 44 Balmville Road, Town of Newburgh, where friends may call from 2 to 3 on June 21. Contributions may bemade to the Union Presbyterian Church organ fund. Arrangements are by the Ralston-Lippincott Funeral Home, Middletown.
