Former Resident Passes To Reward

Carl F. Weitenhagen Victim of Heart Attack at Adrian, Mich.

The remains of Carl F Weitenhagen, who died February 3, at the home of his son, William, in Adrian, Mich. were brought back to Hawkeye and burial took place Thursday from Trinity Lutheran church, says the Hawkeye Beacon.

Mr Weitenhagen died suddenly from heart attack. Previous to this his health had been generally good except for occasional rheumatic pains and minor ailments.

Carl Frederick August Weitenhagen was born January 20, 1855, at Pallien, Pomerania, Germany. In his infancy he was baptized into the name of the Triune God. After being instructed in the fundamentals of the Christian faith he renewed his baptismal vows at the confirmation altar, March 22, 1869.

As a young man of 27 years our deceased brother came to America in 1882, with Sumner as the goal of his journey. December 14 of the same year he was united in wedlock with Frederike Scheel, who preceded her husband in death in the year 1918, on November 29.

After living near Sumner for some time he moved with his family to a farm near Fredericksburg where he was one of the first members who helped organize the Lutheran church of the Missouri synod at that place.

In 1906 the family moved to a farm near Hawkeye in which vicinity they remained. About eight years ago the family home was discontinued when the deceased made his home here and there with his children. Since last September he had been staying with his son, Will at Adrian, Mich.

He reached the age of 79 years and 4 days. Those who mourn his passing are his eight children who survive him, six sons and two daughters: Frank of Fredericksburg; Emil, whose address in the Northwest is at present not known; Will at Adrian, Mich; August of Sumner; Carl of Jamestown, N.D.; Anna, Mrs Richard Hehmke, Hawkeye; Fred, West Union; Emma, Mrs Elmer Blockhaus, Elgin; 23 grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.
