Thomas Norman Akin, 56, died Sunday, March 29, 1992. Born in Dallas, Texas, Tom grew up in Houston and graduated from Reagan High School and attended The University of Houston. During 37 years in engineering and construction, Tom worked in mapping and graphics at Houston Lighting & Power and in piping design for Fluor Corp. Foster Wheeler and most recently at Stone and Webster Corp. He was preceded in death by his father, Conrad Akin, sister Rilda Ellen Walton and his brother, Conrad Lewis Akin. He is survived by his mother, Coleman Josephine Akin; brother, James Michael Akin and wife Hilda; sisters, Joy Lynne Friedman and husband, Robert, and Sara Elizabeth Troutman and husband, Glenn. Also, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am. On Wednesday, April 1, 1992 at Shepherd Drive Methodist Church, 600 Shepherd with Rev. Hollis Flarity and Rev. Ray David officiating. Interment, Glenwood Cemetery. The family will received friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 31, 1992 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 pm. Heights Funeral Home.
