Dorothy was the daughter of Susie Hogle Conrad Joris Posey and Byron Conrad. In her early years she worked for her Uncle C.W. Hogle as a bootlegger and a rum runner. Dorothy first married Melvin E. Lewis in 1922 in Mount Vernon. Melvin was 41 and Dorothy was 15, a difference of 25 years. Melvin had six children from a previous marriage. They had five children together. Melvin Orvin, Paul Byron, Iris Louise, Minnie Bea and Bobby Gene Lewis. Dorothy filed for divorce in 1946 from Melvin and moved to Oil City, PA. She took up housekeeping for Irvin Vernon Lewis, brother of Freda Lewis Barr(Melvin E. Lewis's sister) until his death. She met John Bickel and had a common law marriage. Grandma loved to make doilies and painting ceramic's that she would fire in a kiln with her daughter Minnie, collecting piece's of worn glass from the shores of Lake Erie and chasing her grand kids with a yardstick. Her elder years were uneventful and peaceful. She enjoyed life and was loved by her family.
