Willie James Appling Sr., 77, died Tuesday, January 5, 1999, at Putnam Community Medical Center.
He had been a resident of Palatka since 1987, coming from Hastings. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his sons, Willie James Jr. (Antoinette) of Decatur, Ill., Karl (Elaine) of Akron, Ohio, Freddie (Candace) of Victorville, Calif.; daughters, Willie Mae (Sammie Lee) Williams of Detroit, Mich., Elouise Appling of Jacksonville, Lois A. (Bernard) Scott Sr. of St. Augustine, Joyce (Charles) Jones of Palatka, Linda (Raymond) Evans of Hastings, Annie Ree Pridgen of Rochelle, Ga.; brothers, Minos (June) Appling of Miami, Ledlia (Chloe) Appling of Miami, Artis (Joyce) Appling of Palatka, Billie (Vickie) Appling of Edmonds, Wash., Henry (Bernice) Appling of Rebecca, Ga.; brothers and sister-in-law, Johnny (Willie Mae) Appling of Steubenville, Ohio, Jimmy Appling of Inkster, Mich.; sister, Shirley Garrison of Palatka; 32 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his buddy of many years, Jimmie Lee Williams.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 1 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. Frederick Demps, Pastor. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery, San Mateo.
