Funeral Wednesday For Pvt. Shipley Killed on Okinawa
Funeral services for Pvt. Maynard Elvis Shipley, 20, killed on Okinawa, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Criswell Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery with military honors by the V.F.W. Pvt. Shipley was killed on May 7, 1945. Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Shipley of Sunneyville, Calif.; grandmother, Mrs. Tildie Shipley of Santa Fe, N.M., and grandfather, C. A. Pennington of Ada. Pvt. Shipley was born at Parish Chapel and grew up in that community, attending school there and high school at Allen. The family moved then to California and it was there that he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was 20 at the time he was killed. (The Ada Evening News, Ada, OK, Tuesday, March 01, 1949, p. 1, Col. 5)
