JOHNSON, Sr., David Byrom
David Byrom Johnson, Sr., our loving father, 'Pop', was born into eternal life on August 22, 2012 at the age of 90, surrounded by his family in Sacramento California. Dave began life December 2, 1921 in Tabler, OK, the youngest of six children born to Paschal Quitman Johnson and Zelma Arie Byrom. Dave and his wife of 63 years, Eileen Anne Theresa Moseman, who preceded him in death, are survived by their 10 children and spouses: David Byrom, Jr. (Sandy), Christopher (Cheryl), Janet (Timothy Belke), Michael (Susan), Richard (Tina), Jennifer (David Leatherby, Jr.), John (Debra), George (Valerie), Daniel (Kimberley), Eileen (Craig McLaughlin), their 29 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Dave was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean War serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Houston. He was a founding member of St. Ignatius Catholic Parish and School in Sacramento, which all 10 of his children attended, and was always active at Jesuit & Loretto High Schools. Dave and Eileen raised their children in Arden Park, where many locals remember this loving couple walking hand in hand through the neighborhood greeting everyone as if they were their best friends. Anyone fortunate enough to know Dave will tell you they've never met a more kind, loving or generous man - selfless to a fault, willing to help anyone who asked, ever joyful in spite of the struggles to provide for his 10 children, never uttering a complaint, even when working two jobs to make ends meet. His house was always filled with neighbors and friends, most of whom considered it their second home. No matter how difficult life was, there was always room for one more at the Johnson table. Dave loved life, he loved to laugh, he enjoyed the company of others, but most of all, Dave loved and cherished his family, giving everything of himself for his wife and children. He was a man of few words, but one never doubted his love for you - all you had to do was look into his eyes to see the sparkle of joy and happiness he had for every person in his presence. Pop, you never asked anything for yourself, you poured out your life for others, so we know you are now receiving from our Good Lord the reward you so truly deserve.

Visitation and Rosary for the blessed repose of Dave's soul on Thursday evening August 30 with Visitation at 6:30 PM followed by the Rosary at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass and services will be conducted by his grandson, Fr. Jeremy Leatherby on Friday morning August 31 at 10:00 AM, both at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 3235 Arden Way, Sacramento, CA 95825. Donations and remembrances can be made either to St. Ignatius Church or Presentation Catholic Church, 4123 Robertson Ave, Sacramento, CA 95825, where Fr. Jeremy Leatherby, is the pastor.
