They raised ten children to adulthood: twin Temperance S., Winfield Scott, Levi Landess, Steward Armstrong, Henry McLane, Mary Magdelene, Alford, Armintha, Effie Jane, and Ennis. One of their first children, twin Sarah, died at birth; their twelfth and youngest, Caroline, died as a child.
