She was born in New York City on March 16, 1917, daughter of the late Arthuri J. and Lydia (Takala) Makinen. She was the wife of the late Karlo J. Aronen. Mr. Aronen died in 1967. Mrs. Aronen worked in domestic services in New York City and Palm Beach, FL.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Lake Worth, FL, where she was a member of the choir. She was very active in the Finlandia House and the Finnish American Rest Home in Lantana, FL and a member of Kaleva Naiset Club of Brooklyn, NY and Lake Worth, FL. She loved swimming and gardening with her companion Harold Latva.
She is survived by her daughter Dianne G. Hawes and husband Herbert of Brooklyn; sister Elena Elvin of Lantana, FL; three grandchildren, Jami Sands, Elizabeth Hawes-Weeks and Herbert H. Hawes III. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Jordan, William and Benjamin and several nieces and nephews.
A private Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg, MA. There are no calling hours.
