Services for David Sebird Dawson, 78, pioneer Meeker businessman, were held at 2 p m Sunday in the First Baptist church, Rev James H Stiles officiating. Mr Dawson died at 4:40 p m Friday in the A C H hospital in Shawnee after suffering a stroke. He had been seriously ill for a year.
Mr Dawson was born February 9, 1879, at Pleasantville, Iowa, he moved to Oklahoma City with his parents in 1891. After living a few months in Oklahoma City he moved to a farm 2 1/2 S of Clifton. He attended Business College in Shawnee and worked in the Shawnee National Bank he then worked in the Bank of Commerce in Kansas City. In 1907 he founded the Citizens Bank of Meeker, of which be was president, selling the Bank and moving to Ardmore in 1919 and was the manager of the Nyanza Refining Co of Wilson. Later he moved to Paris, Texas where he was Comptroller of the Amis Brother's Produce Company.
He moved back to Meeker in 1927 as manager of the Meeker Trading Company until 1933 when he became an auditor for the N R A. After leaving the N R A he organized the Dawson Company manufacturers of oil field safety equipment, until his retirement in May 1954.
He was a member of the Meeker First Baptist church and of the Meeker Masonic Lodge and a member of the Lions Club until he resigned because of ill health.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs Mary Dawson, of the home; two sons, Joe H., Tulsa, and Richard E Dawson, Meeker; one daughter, Mrs Mary Jo Daniel, Tulsa; a brother, Miles J Dawson, Grants, New Mexico; two sisters, Mrs Emma Hatcher, 428 Pulaski, and Ana Bell, Henryetta and seven grandchildren.
Burial was in Meeker cemetery.
