Deceased Name: Robert Hunter Regester, 70
CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Robert Hunter Regester of Chestertown died Monday, April 6, 1998, in the Christiana Hospital, Christiana, Del. He was 70.
Mr. Regester was born in Philadelphia, Pa., son of Frederick T. and Sydney Hunter Regester.
He was a graduate from West Philadelphia High School, class of 1943 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Drexel Universityin 1952.
Mr. Regester served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946 at Fort Belvoir, where he taught mapping.
He was employed with Philadelphia Electric Company as an electric distribution engineer, also, he was senior engineer of Gas Utilization and superintendent of Gas Methods and training, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Regester was a member of the American Gas Association; of the Gas Utilization Committee and Foreign Assessment Technology Committee; chairman of the American Gas Association Customer Service Committee; was awarded the bronze and silver awards of merit for technical papers; was the national president of the American Society of Gas Engineers; also, was chairman of Pennsylvania Gas Association customer service committee and the Metropolitan Philadelphia Gas Utilization council.
Mr. Regester was also a boy scout leader for 20 years and president of the Player's Club of Swarthmore Community Theatre, where he was also technical director for many years as well as a stage actor. The new wing of the Theatre was designated ''The Roger Regester Wing,'' honoring his design of the addition. Mr. Regester was a member of the Md. Ornithological Society, Kent County chapter, where he was treasurer. He was also a member of the Chester SL: OBIT8 Club, the Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post No. 36 and of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Chestertown.
He enjoyed sailing, golfing and building.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; a son, Gary Regester of Parkesburg, Pa.; a daughter, Julia Marie Rudolph of Swarthmore, Pa.; a brother, Richard Regester of Hockessin, Del.; four step-children, Constance Worth of Chestertown, Carolyn Stellwagen of Drexel Hill, Pa., Cynthia Alleger of Rock Hall and Michael Worth of Worton; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Chestertown. The Rev. Dr. Gregory Straub will officiate.
Burial will be in the Shrewsbury Cemetery, Kennedyville, Md.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the Robert Regester memorial fund to benefit the Players Club of Swarthmore, PO Box 236, Swarthmore, PA 19081 or to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Roof Fund, Cross Street, Chestertown, MD 21620.
