Paul J. Burns of Wilmington & New Castle, DE, and later Elkton, MD was proprietor of the Log Cabin-Captain's Log (now Jessop's Tavern) on Delaware St. in Old New Castle. He later worked as a Sales Representative for NKS Distributors. He served in the Coast Guard during WWII. He was an active member of Chesapeake City VFW, Stahl Post of New Castle, Salesianum High School Alumni, a founder of Delaware Sports Hall of Fame, and a referee for Golden Gloves Boxing. Paul was active in sports all his life, coaching, organizing, and loyal fan, known for his encouragement, support, and recognition of athletes of all ages. Above all, he is remembered for his fairness, decency, & congeniality.
He was survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen [Reader] Burns, daughters Maureen and Suzanne, and sons Paul, Michael, Francis, Patrick, Gene, & Jim, 12 grandchildren, and by his brothers Joseph & Francis.
