Rose "Alice" Colton, 89, died June 25, 2007 at Community Memorial Home Osakis, MN
Rose "Alice" was born December 28, 1917 in Elkton, South Dakota, to Nichlaus and Nellie Jane (Baumgartner) Scherer. The family moved to a farm in Amboy in 1927 where she attended school and graduated from Amboy High School in 1935. In the fall she attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis with plans to become a nurse.
On February 18, 1937 she married Stanley Norris Colton and moved to a farm near Amboy. Later the family moved to a farm in Argusville, ND. From there she moved to a farm in Alexandria.
While raising her nine children, Alice raised and canned all of the fruits and vegetables, made all of the bread, butter, lard, jellies, cakes, etc.; washed clothes by hand, and helped with the fieldwork, milking and butchering.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie Jane (Baumgartner) Scherer and Nichlaus Scherer; husband, Stanley Colton; sons, Franklin George, Duane Nichlaus, and Michael Norris Colton; grandchildren, Wayne, Sandra and Thomas; and seven siblings.
She is survived by one sister, Violet Kohler; six children, Hazel Adele Raasch of Farmington, Jane Alice (David) Horns of Corcoran, Pride Anthony (Ramona) Colton of Carlos, Jeffrey Lynn (Marla) Colton of Eagle Bend, Debra Jean (Ronald) Walsch of Alexandria and John Daniel Colton of Clarissa; grandchildren, many great grandchildren and other relatives.
Alice was a "Gold Star" mother.
A funeral service was held June 26 at Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Joan Wittrock officiating. Interment was at Nelson Cemetery. Casket bearers were Franklin Colton, Michael Raasch, Steven Horns, Jason Colton, Patrick Walsch, William Walsch and Sean Colton. Honorary casket bearers were all of Alice's great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral home in Alexandria.
