Mary Jane Miller, Hermitage, PA entered into Heaven to be with her Lord on October 6, 2012.

She courageously endured an extended illness which led to her passing into glory from Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born (Mary Jane Downs) November 25, 1941 in New Bethlehem, to David R and Mary E Kerr Downs.

She was a 1959 graduate of Redbank Valley High School.

She married her husband of 50 years, James Donald Miller, on December 9, 1961. He resides at home.

While she spent most of her years as a wonderful homemaker, she worked for a time as a cafeteria aide at the Hermitage School District while her children attended school. She was an active member of the former Sharon Free Methodist Church. for many years, she volunteered as the church treasurer and also taught Sunday school, and she was always there helping with church dinners and functions. After its closing, she and her husband began attending Grace Chapel Community Church. There she developed many friendships and hosted a Bible study group along with her husband. She also belonged to TOPS and enjoyed many friendships there as well.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, shopping and most of all spending time with those she loved. Her spiritual gifts were those of teaching, giving and compassion, which were made evident throughout her life. Many have been blessed by her wisdom, generosity and kindness.

Always possessing a sweet spirit and a sincere faith, she had the privilege of leading famly and friends into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. For many years, she led church and neighborhood Bible studies, always presenting the gospel message with grace and clarity. Her thirst for learning God's Word was infectious and she was a spiritual mentor to many of all ages. She lived out her faith every day and consistently treated others with loving kindness, respect and dignity.

Her love of God and family was so very important to her. Her husband, children and her 'most beautiful grandchildren', as she often referred to them, were always her pride and joy. Family gatherings and reunions were so important to her and she enjoyed every moment spent laughing, listening and sharing life with those she loved. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her, but we also rejoice with her as she reunites with her Savior and her loved ones who were waiting with open arms to greet her.

Surviving besides her husband, James (Don), are a son, Kerry L Milller and his wife Donna of Dillsburg, a daughter, Angela S Garthwaite and her husband Bundy of Hermitage, three grandchildren, Jordan Lane Miller of Dillsburg and Breanna Jane Garthwaite and Lauren Elise Garthwaite of Hermitage, five siblings, David Downs and his companion Joanne of Austintown, Ohio, Marsha McCauley and her husband Daniel of New Bethlehem, Fred Downs and his wife Margie of Austintown, Ohio, Bootsie Wells and her husband bob of New Bethlehem, and Lori Rupp of New Bethlehem, a sister-in-law, Delores Miller of Hermitage, a step mother-in-law, Jane Miller of Rimersburg, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom she dearly loved.
