Hiram was a son of John Wesley Bessey (1797-1885) and Magdalene Smith (1793-1872). He was born in Grantham Twp; Lincoln County (which is part of St. Catharines now) in the year 1830.

He married Ann Wheeler on Dec. 30, 1857 in Erin Twp; Wellington County.

They raised 7 children in Erin Twp;
1. James Albert Bessey 1858-1895.
2. William Bessey 1860-1939.
3. Elizabeth Bessey (Shelly) 1863-1955.
4. Lucinda Bessey (Macauley) 1867-1933.
5. Susan Mariah Bessey 1868-1934.
6. Leonard Bessey 1870-1966.
7. Mary Bessey (Binnie) 1875-1925.

Hiram died at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 10 days.
His cause of Death was; Inflamation of the Bowels for 5 days. Death Register #018391.
