Born in Reading, Pennsylvania on 5 September 1930. Donald was the son of Franklin Benjamin Esterly and Florence Mary Knauer. He was one of 16 children of Benjamin and Florence. He had 4 half siblings, children of Franklin and Ellen Esther Tobias. As a result of a tragic family event, Donald was adopted and raised by his step sister, Mayme Eleanor Esterly and her husband, William Walters. Donald took the Walters surname upon his adoption in 1936.
Donald married Georgia Carol Walters of Midway Park, NC on 13 January 1950. They had 3 children, Donald Richard Walters, Jr, Deborah Carol Walters and Cindy Marie Walters. They had 2 grandchildren, Regina Chelise Walters and Leslie Walters Davis.
Donald served our great country as a member of the USMC. He retired after 20 years and worked in civil service at Camp LeJeune.
