Etcyle B. Rains died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 79. He retired from Chattanooga Transformers and Shelton Construction Co. Mr. Rains was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and the Men's Bethany Class. He was a member of Robert Loveday Disabled American Veterans No. 6 and the Order of the Ernie Pyle Chapter 1945 for Purple Heart recipients. He was also a member of the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council, where he served on the honor guard for more than 13 years.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Layne Rains; son, Phililp Rains, Hixson; daughter, Virginia Fitzsimmons, Rossville, Ga.; two sisters, Burma Gunter and Muriel Prestridge, Geraldine, Ala.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
