: According to Abraham's obituary, printed in the Noblesville Ledger, December 2, 1930, page 6, his parents died young. When he was two years old he moved to Anderson, Indiana. The obituary does not specify who took him there. At the time of his death he lived with a Mr. and Mrs. Willis Lucas in "the old house" near Perkinsville on the banks of Indian Creek. He may have purchased that house about 1870; the purchase originally was for 20 acres but he eventually increased his holdings to over 800 acres. As a young man, Abraham cut wood for the railroad, became an agent for the sucker pump (a kind of pump to avoid dipping water from a well) and a sewing machine agent. He was married twice and both wives predeceased him. He had ten children.
