Obituary of Mrs. Amelia Vienop

Amelia Vienop, daughter of August Koerwitz and his wife, Albertina Kietzke, was born April 20, 1876, in Dramburg, Germany. (This is in Poland today) She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by the Rev. Mr. Fisher of Dramburg.

At the age of sixteen years she came with her parents to America and settled in the vicinity of Deshler.

On February 25, 1895, she was united in marriage to Julius Schwantz of Deshler. This marriage was blessed with three children; two daughters and one son.

On April 15, 1928, she was married to Ernest Vienop of Daykin, Nebr., who passed away June 9, 1942.

In July, 1960, having poor health, she entered the Hastings State Hospital, where she passed away Saturday, January 26, 1963, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 6 days.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands and a daughter, Mrs. Ella Gienau.

She leaves to mourn her death: one daughter, Mrs. Anna Powers and her husband, Jim, of Albin, Wyoming; one son, Carl Schwantz and his wife, Gladys, of Deshler; one brother, Ernst Koerwitz, of Hastings; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Degner of Deshler, Mrs. Meta Kline of Orange, Calif., and Mrs. Tillie Nehring of Pica Rivera, Calif.; six grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon from St. Peter Lutheran Church. The Rev. E. T. Baumann used Acts 14:22b as his sermon text. The congregation sang "Abide With Me" and St. Peter Male Chorus sang, "Asleep In Jesus."

Interment was made in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carl Huelle, Herman Hoops, Ed. F. Smith, August Bangert, Arthur Kreissler and Edwin Achterberg.

The following out-of-town relatives attended the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Jim Powers, Don Clements, of Albin, Wyo.; Ernst Koerwitz of Hastings, and Mr. and Mrs. Mark Bergt, Jr. of Davenport

August Korwitz age 40 immigrated to the United States from Jarnikow, Germany. The ship records show his destination is Nebraska and that he brought along $38.00. There were 10 family members that also came with him. His wife, Ernstina age 39, Albert age 24 (Ernestine's brother), and children Emilia 16, Ernstina 14, Martha age 9, Franz 7, Gustav 4, Otto 2, Albert 1. The family was all listed in good health and of the protestant faith. The ship was the Weimer and arrived at the Port of Baltimore on November 27th, 1892.
