Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Nettie McLean Houck Howell, age 83, of Lenoir, went to be with her Lord and Savior after a lengthy illness, Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Born September 22, 1927 in Caldwell County, Mrs. Howell was a daughter of the late William B. and Ola Mae Greene McLean.

A member of Colliers United Methodist Church, Mrs. Howell was known as "The Cake Lady" to the members of the church. She was retired from Hammary Furniture.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, J.T. Houck; her second husband, Emanuel Howell; one daughter, Mary Houck; three sisters, Edith Benge, Myrtle Tester, Charlotte Hartley; two brothers, William McLean; Oscar McLean and one grandson, Tony Houck.

She is survived by five children, Bruce Houck and fiancé Ruby Money of Lenoir; Virginia Cantor and husband Vernon of Lenoir; Patricia Woods and husband James of Lenoir; John Houck and wife Linda of Granite Falls; Betty "Mousie" Simmons of Granite Falls; one sister, Lillie Mae Crane of Lenoir; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Mrs. Howell's life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Colliers United Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Taylor, Reverend Joe Parker and Mrs. Martha Proffit officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Colliers Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Todd Simmons, Jamie Woods, Jody Houck, Jeremy Houck, Kenneth Crane and Richard McLean.
