William Gerloff, 47, died late Saturday afternoon at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, the second death victim of the fire which destroyed his home at Ayr last Tuesday morning.
First death from the fire was that of Mr. Gerloff's grandson, Edward Zbiegien, 3-year-son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Zbiegien of Hastings.
The condition of Mrs. Gerloff, who sustained fourth degree burns in the fire, still is reported to be critical.
Her daughters, Neva, 18, and LiVonia, 12, were not severely injured in the fire and the attending physician said their condition is "progressing nicely".
Mr. Gerloff was a lifelong resident of the Ayr community and was employed on Adams county bridge construction as a carpenter.
Survivors, in addition to his widow, Gladys, and the two daughters injured in the fire, include two other daughters, Miss Margaret Gerloff and Mrs. Edward Zbiegein, both of Hastings; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gerloff of Ayr; three sisters, Mrs. Eva Packer of Beatrice, Mrs. Evelyn Anderson of Buhl, Ida., and Mrs. Hazel Niemeyer of Hastings; and five brothers, Chris and Albert of Hastings, Ted of North Platte, and Earl and Ray of Culver City, Calif.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist Church at Ayr with the Rev. Orin D. Watson officiating. Burial will be in the Leroy cemetery.
The body will remain at the Livingston-Butler Funeral Chapel until time of service.
